Minecraft Ideas

I sometimes come up with ideas for Minecraft.

Some of these lend themselves to being features in the standard game, but most are more appropriate as mods.

I have grouped these ideas based on whether they can run solely on the client, or the server has to be in on it, too.

Client side

  • Consistent shift-click (furnace, brewing stand)
  • Show waypoints, faraway players (like rei’s minimap)
  • Newtonian celestials
    • Proper orbits for sun, moon, planets, stars
    • Procedurally generated stars
    • Shooting stars (possibly with meteorites, server-side)
    • Comets
    • Nebulae
    • Aurorae
  • Dynamic clouds
    • Form over water, dissipate over land, depending on wetness of biome
    • Determines fog
    • Collide with mountains
    • Dynamic merging/splitting
    • Degrees of sun depending on cloudiness
  • Particle effects
    • Waterfalls
  • Reduce monotony
    • Rotate textures
    • Rotate particles
  • Connected textures (like chests)
    • Glass
    • Glass panes
  • Lava makes stone red/glowy
  • Zombie Pigmen have random pieces of meat missing
  • Change redstone to copper

Server side

  • Stackable (non-used) tools, potions, soup etc.
  • Reverse dispenser (like obsidian pipes in industrialcraft)
  • Improved dispenser
    • Spawns entities (boat, minecart)
    • Eggs hatch
  • Parachute
  • Allow blocks to be under water (fences, etc.)
  • Self-replanting seeds/saplings (for autofarming, forest spreading)
  • Auto-pickup chest/dispenser
  • Mechanism Glowstone (glowstone + redstone) reacting to redstone

    • Volcano
    • Trench (underwater ravines already implemented)

  • Infinite Z-levels
    • 16x16x16 chunks (could save on loading/saving?)
  • Remove spawn protection
  • Disable /give, /tp etc.
  • Nuanced weather depending on clouds
